The BJP government’s notification of the Citizenship Amendment Act, which seeks to isolate Muslims while ignoring Eelam Thamizhs, is extremely condemnable. This awful decision by the BJP government will pave the way for the partition of the Indian mainland, which was founded on the principle of unity in diversity.
The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has been staunchly opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which intends to award citizenship only to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The NTK spearheaded multiple huge protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which attempts to create religious discrimination and isolate the Muslim population.
The Citizenship Act of 1955 grants citizenship to foreigners who have lived in India for more than 11 years. This recently modified act would provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who have lived in the nation for at least six years. The Citizenship Amendment Act, which systematically excludes Muslims while granting citizenship to others, will fundamentally undermine the cornerstone of secularism in this country.
The BJP government, which provides citizenship to non-Muslims fleeing Islamic nations, also denies citizenship to Thamizhs who are persecuted and fleeing due to the war in Sri Lanka, a Buddhist terrorist state. This amendment aims to keep the Eelam Thamizhs as refugees who have lived in this country for nearly 30 years. By ignoring the Eelam Thamizhs, our slogan ‘Thamizhs are Never Hindus’ has been justified against Hindutva organizations such as the BJP, which are attempting to acquire votes by falsely claiming that Thamizhs are Hindus.
I urge all state parties working for nationalities’ rights to strongly oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act, which has been enacted with the aim of disregarding the Eelam Thamizhs, segregating and isolating the Muslim people, and rendering them stateless. On behalf of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, I urge the BJP government to rescind this amendment immediately, as it will lead the country down the path of destruction.
