I was deeply shocked and profoundly saddened to hear about the horrific incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where 25 innocent civilians who had gone on a tour were ruthlessly shot and killed by terrorists. This cowardly attack by the terrorists warrants the strongest condemnation.
Despite the deployment of thousands of military personnel and round-the-clock surveillance by intelligence agencies that have turned Kashmir into an open-air prison, the fact that terrorists in army uniforms can roam freely in public areas highlights a grave lapse in security. What were India’s defense and intelligence agencies doing in such a vulnerable situation?
This heinous incident marks a glaring failure of the security establishment under the BJP-led Union Government. Is there really an intelligence agency in this country? Is it functioning at all? Or did it just stand by and watch the attack unfold? Such questions arise due to the complete breakdown of the Union Government’s intelligence operations.
It is the foremost duty of the Indian Union Government and the Jammu and Kashmir State Government to prevent such heartless and brutal attacks in the future, to protect the citizens of the country, and to ensure peace and safety in Kashmir so that the people living there can return to normal life.
