I am extremely shocked and deeply anguished by the brutal rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at a government hospital in Kolkata. I express my condolences to the family of the deceased woman doctor and share my grief.
At a time when doctors across the country are agitating against this atrocity, I urge the West Bengal government to conduct a speedy judicial inquiry and punish the culprit severely.
The series of incidents of assault on doctors working in government and private hospitals are highly condemnable. In Telangana, a woman doctor was raped and burned to death, and now in West Bengal, doctors across the country are not safe enough to be murdered inside a medical college hospital.
It is the prime duty of the state governments to save the lives of doctors who save the lives of people.
Therefore, on behalf of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, I urge all the state governments, including Tamil Nadu, to ensure that the government and private hospitals function with adequate security.
