Seeman’s Statement on the 42nd Anniversary of Black July!

25

On this day in 1983, known as Black July, with the support of the racist Sri Lankan state, Sinhalese extremists set fire to the homes and shops of Tamils, looted their belongings, drenched the streets in blood, and left corpses in every household — all part of a planned massacre in which thousands of innocent Tamil people were brutally killed.

Even after 40 years of genocide in the Tamil homeland, the #EelamTamils still remain under Sinhalese racist domination, forced to continue their struggle for basic rights. This ongoing suffering is a deep historical tragedy.

I offer my tearful tribute to the Tamil people who were killed in the Black July genocide, targeted by Sinhalese racism.
