Indian Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s neglect of Tamil Nadu in the budget for 2025-26 is a blatant betrayal of the entire Tamil community. Moreover, it is highly condemnable that the budget has given more special schemes to states like Bihar ruled by the BJP’s coalition but ignored any special scheme for Tamil Nadu.
In many states, like Tamil Nadu, the downtrodden people have been deprived of their livelihood due to the allocation of more funds to the defence sector and not increasing the funds for the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
There is no announcement in this budget to rescue the people of the country from the economic recession. Though the increase in the loan amount from 3 to 5 lakhs seems to be good news for the farmers, it is a great shame for the country that the plight of the farmers forces them to take loans to date. Moreover, there are no special schemes for the development of the agriculture sector, which is running at a huge loss, and no announcements to uplift the farmers’ standard of living.
While it is a relief that taxes on lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and mobile phones have been reduced, it is an unjust act that the taxes on petrol and diesel, which are responsible for the rise in prices, have not been reduced at a time when people are suffering due to the steep price rise. Moreover, there is no good scheme in the budget that will benefit the middle-class people who are in the grip of poverty. By restricting the borrowing rights of the state, the Indian Union government has launched a massive attack on the federal structure of the country by presenting this budget.
This budget is not for the development of the country; it is not only a ploy to retain power in the states ruled by the BJP but also tactically prepared with electoral interests in mind.
It is disappointing that this budget is almost like a copy of last year’s budget report. It does not present any effective plan to create employment opportunities for the crores of educated youth who are looking for jobs.
By ignoring Tamil Nadu in this budget, which does not have any useful announcement for the economically challenging future, I consider this budget as a garbage piled up with papers.
