இன்று (சூலை-29) உலகளாவிய புலிகள் நாள்!

பல்லுயிர்ச்சூழலின் முக்கியக் கண்ணியாக விளங்கும் புலிகள் இன்றைக்கு அரிதான உயிரினமாக மாறிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன.

ஒரு வனத்தில் புலிகள் மிகுந்து இருக்கிறதென்றால், அவை வாழ்வதற்கேற்ற நீர், உணவு, பாதுகாப்பான வனம், உலவுவதற்கான பரந்த நிலம் யாவும் கிடைக்கப்பெறுவதாகப் பொருள் கொள்ளப்படுகிறது. புலிகளின் எண்ணிக்கையில் நிகழ்ந்தேறும் செங்குத்தான வீழ்ச்சி, தாவரவகையின் தொகை விழுக்காடு அழிய வழிவகுக்கும். புலிகள் எண்ணிக்கை குறைவதன் மூலம் மான்கள் உண்ணும் இத்தாவரங்களின் விழுக்காடு அதிகரிப்பதனால் வனப்பகுதியில் அது பெரும் எதிர்மறையான தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தக்கூடும். ஆகவே, உணவுச்சங்கிலியைக் காப்பாற்றுவதிலும், பல்லுயிர்ப்பெருக்கத்தைத் தக்க வைப்பதிலும் புலிகள் மிக முக்கியக் கண்ணியாக விளங்குகிறது.

புலிகள் வாழ்வதற்கேற்ற சூழல் அற்றுப்போய் அவைகள் அழிவதன் மூலம் மிகப்பெரும் சூழலியல் பேரழிவை வனங்கள் எதிர்கொள்ள நேரிடும். இதனால், புலிகளைக் காக்க வேண்டியது பேரவசியமாகிறது. ஆகவே, பல்லுயிர்ப்பெருக்கத்திற்கும், சூழலியல் சமநிலைக்கும் பெரும்பங்காற்றும் புலிகளைக் காக்க அதிகப் புலிகளைப் பாதுகாக்கும் வனங்களை உருவாக்கி, அவைகள் வாழும் வனப்பரப்புகள் சுருக்கப்படுவதைத் தடுக்க வேண்டும்.

Tiger: The Epitome of a Forest Wellbeing!

The presence of tigers in large numbers in a forest means plenty of water, food, safe forest, and vast tracts of land are available. The decline in the number of tigers will pave the way to the increase in deer population and thereby reduction in plant population and will have a major negative impact on the forest. Therefore, tigers are the most critical link in keeping the food chain intact and thus maintaining biodiversity. Forests face a major ecological catastrophe as tigers lose their habitat and become extinct; Thus, it is imperative to protect tigers. Therefore, to protect the tigers, which are solely responsible for biodiversity and ecological balance, we need to increase forest cover that protects the tigers and prevent deforestation activities in the forests they live in.
